EPDM Coupling Elastomers

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is the saturated-rubber answer to weathering, ozone, UV, water and steam. Where NBR or NR crack and harden outdoors, EPDM keeps its elasticity year after year, and it holds a wider service temperature than either. It is the compound we specify for cooling towers, washdown areas, hot-water circuits and any coupling that lives outside - but it has little resistance to oils and fuels, so for oily duty choose NBR or Hytrel.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything buyers ask before ordering coupling elastomers from our Shanghai factory.

What is EPDM and when should I choose it?

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a saturated rubber with outstanding resistance to weathering, ozone, UV, water and steam, plus a wide service temperature range. Choose EPDM for couplings that run outdoors, in cooling towers, washdown areas or hot-water circuits, and wherever NBR or NR would crack, harden or age out. EPDM has poor oil and fuel resistance - use NBR or Hytrel for oily duty.

Which coupling elements can be molded from EPDM?

We mold EPDM into gear coupling sleeves (H and HS profiles), jaw coupling spiders (L and HRC series) and grid or shear elements for outdoor, wet and steam service. Hardness from 60 to 90 Shore A, with the compound adjusted to the duty.

What is the temperature range of EPDM coupling elements?

Typical EPDM compounds operate from about -40 °C to +130 °C, with short peaks to +150 °C in steam and hot-water service. That gives EPDM the widest general-service range of the rubber compounds we mold.
